I don’t remember any traces of me before 26. I currently live in a rather suburban area and with a guy, and two children. I am called Sangsil Na, but something inside me does not agree with that name. But well, whatever other people calls me it’s me, I guess that’s me because I don’t know who I am, like a person who was born at age of 26. It’s a strange thing. I sometimes have a strange epiphany of nostalgia over bluntly normal objects, or I subconsciously know facts and knowledges that people don’t usually know. One major event I remember was when I saw a person playing a piano. An inspiration struck me like a lightning. When I attempted to play, my hands moved on its own and played a song that required some extensive training. I have had some very realistic nightmares of a car accident in which it’s damaging my head. Also even when I went to a western formal restaurant, I recognized the functions of tableware. There are lots of stuff that I just know, like an instinct. And it sometimes feels like the family I live with is hiding something from me as I am becoming more knowledgeable and aware of myself.
Diagnosis
It appears that "Sangsil Na" is suffering from post-traumatic amnesia. Post-traumatic amnesia is a type of memory loss that is caused by an injury to the head. The person who is suffering from this amnesia could recover their memories after a certain period of time, but it could be permanent. However, the amnesiac person could get short flashes of their previous memories when encountering an object or event that was a part of the previous memory before the amnesia. The nightmares of the car accident may be a brief flashback of the cause of the amnesia. The cause of the amnesia is most likely a blow to the head from that past, possibly at the age of 26, since nothing is remembered before that time.
Treatment
There are certain things you could do to help, like counseling and drug therapy. However, with our technology today, perfect treatment for amnesia has not been found. If it was amnesia caused by some trauma, then the counseling would help. Amnesia caused from physical injuries are much more hard to deal with. All that can be done is for time to pass and let the memories piece together by itself.
